modern monsters HOSTS "BAY AREA BANDS TOGETHER"

THE "BAY AREA BANDS TOGETHER/ BAY AREA BANDS UNITED" COLLECTIVE WILL BE ORGANIZING AND HOSTING A SERIES OF BENEFIT SHOWS TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR LOCAL CAUSES AND STRUGGLES, AND TO BUILD SOLIDARITY, STRONG FRIENDSHIPS, CONNECTIONS, AND MUTUAL EMPOWERMENT IN OUR LOCAL AND GLOBAL COMMUNITIES.

BABT had this to say in their recent Facebook post:

"We are one community. Artists, workers, musicians, neighbors, friends, families/ found families. We are one planet rocking and spinning through space, and we are connected to one another in the Bay Area and across the world. We can stand in solidarity in this crazy space-time ride to support everyone to have good healthcare, education, food, shelter, clean water, and fulfilling work/ play/ dance/ celebration/ music/ moonwalking.

We've chosen January 20th as the kick-off date for our 2017 benefit show touring campaign for obvious reasons that need not be mentioned here. The "UNITED" States was meant to be "OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE," and WE ARE THE PEOPLE. Our strength comes not from saying who we are against but from uniting to create the world we want. Things look bleak to a lot of us right now, between the Ghost Ship fire and aftermath of this tragedy, and the shift in power that is occurring right now. Artist and DIY spaces are being shut down and the core of our artist community is being pushed out of their homes. It's time to stand together and say NO to the persecution of artists and DIYers and YES to community we want to actively create together. The question at this moment is IF NOT NOW, WHEN? It's time to stand together and make our voices heard!"

Local indie rockers Modern Monsters and Lender along with hip-hop opener WOP kicked-off the first weekend to a rockin’ crowd.

In addition, Brody Bass of Modern Monsters took initiative to create awareness and raise money for victim’s families of the Ghost Ship warehouse fire in Oakland, CA in connection with The Ghost Ship Fire Relief Fund. The fire took the lives of over 30 people, artists and creators. The night was filled with optimism, encouragement, emerging music and community support.
